As Another Petal Falls – A Poem About Regret

As another end draws near and another twilight falls

I hear the sound of my beating heart, which continues its call

Its call was once a whisper, one whose sound I could hardly hear

But whose voice has since grown louder, made much more difficult to bear

It tells me truths, those of which I simply do not care

The truth of a longing which sustains my deep despair

Another year has ceased to be, and another birthday draws near

Another year in which I hide my deep longing and my all-encompassing fear

Much like the beast, who was attached to an enchanted rose

Another year of isolation is coming to its close

As I refuse to change, striving for all that this world has to give

Another petal of my rose falls, reminding me of the life I haven’t fully lived
