Losing My Religion – A Poem about Losing Faith

Where were you when I needed you?

The countless nights spent in despair

Where were you when I needed you?

Hoping and waiting for you to answer my prayers

Where were you when I needed you?

Through all of the fights, the chaos, and fear

Where were you when I needed you?

The depth of your absence soon became crystal clear

Where were you when I needed you?

During a rearing that was fraught with deception and lies

Where were you when I needed you?

The biggest of all was that I’d finally meet you when I died

Where were you when I needed you?

I studied your words and practiced your ways

Where were you when I needed you?

Yet you were always so distant, so far away

Where were you when I needed you?

As a terrified child, left alone in the dark

Where were you when I needed you?

Left alone on my journey, on which I now embark

Where were you when I needed you?

I was angry and bitter, because I thought you didn’t care

Where were you when I needed you?

I know now that there was never a you, because you were never there
